Hypnotherapy

While many people have been led to believe that hypnosis is a quick and dramatic cure for whatever ails you, in truth this is a modality that allows you to draw on your already-present internal resources to create changes in your behaviors that you desire. Therapeutic goals are initially discussed so that they are made explicit, and any fears or concerns about the hypnotic state of trance are discussed and processed fully. Clients really need to first become educated about hypnosis and that is why over several sessions clients experience greater progressive success as they become more comfortable and trusting of the process. Realistically, one should expect to participate in several sessions with the expectation of progressive and incremental change. Like anything in life, the more you practice the better and more successful you become. With my help, you are teaching yourself how to drop deeply into the hypnotic state so that you feel increasingly confidant to have this as a tool you can use at home for ongoing reinforcement through self-hypnosis. Weight control and smoking cessation are often associated with the appropriate use of hypnosis however any personal issue can be successfully addressed through hypnotherapy. This is not magic—it is the skillful use of language to stimulate imagery and “right brain thinking” in a relaxed state in order to re-associate at the unconscious level while your normal thinking mind, always critiquing and judging, takes a lunch break. Everyone is hypnotizable but the degree of depth of the hypnotic state is subjective and variable. This means that there is no way to predict how “deep” your state of hypnotic trance will be. Most clients remember everything that was said and experienced during hypnosis. Yet, what is most important is to learn how to consider new ideas and possibilities in a therapeutic state of attentional absorption in order to allow behavioral changes to unfold in the way and at the pace that is best suited for you.
